"Pedals, Pipes and Pizza" a wonderful success . . . Though specific programs for introducing children to the organ have been around a long time, and though individual members have hosted special programs for school age children, last month NHAGO hosted our first official "Pedals, Pipes, Pizza". Abbey Hallberg Siegfried was the presenter using the Ruffati organ at the Phillips Academy Chapel in Exeter. Approximately 30 people were in attendance. She began the program with Bach’s "Toccata in d minor" and then demonstrated the major features of the organ in a child-friendly way. After a tour of the organ chamber, it was the children’s turn to try the organ and several took advantage of this chance to play. Abbey registered their piano pieces to make them more meaningful and fun. She closed the morning program with the Bach "Fugue in d Minor", and we all went downstairs to the lounge for delicious pizza and soda. Thank you, Abbey, for such a kind and caring demonstration of the "King of Instruments"! You have such a wonderful way with children! I wish you all a blessed Holy Week and Easter! Liz Black

Did I mention that checks can be made out to NH POE 2009? Please mail your tax-deductible donation to our treasurer, Shirley Boucher at 17 Megan Drive, Northfield, NH 03276. We have already received several generous donations from our chapter members, organ builders, and neighboring chapters totaling over $3,000 of our $15,000 goal. If each chapter member made a small donation, we can certainly meet this goal combined with expected grants from the Smyth Fund and the Ayer Foundation. I am also thrilled to report that we have already enrolled fifteen students with countless other inquiries and expected applicants. We have compared numbers with all of the other POEs around the country and we are right on track, in fact doing better than many others. If you know of any potential young organists, please encourage them to apply today! Next month, I look forward to sharing with you various exciting details about the POE. In the meantime, I encourage all of you who are tech savy to visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5xea1TZGdU to watch a great video about Pipe Organ Encounters. Thank you again for your generous support.
